Is the AC causing poor indoor air quality?« Back to Previous Page

After the intense dust storm we had last week, I noticed a strange odor lingering in the living room. It’s not too bad, but it’s definitely there, and now my son has started to complain of a stuffy nose every morning. The AC was on high throughout the night. Could this be an issue with indoor air quality, or is it just something temporary?

It’s quite plausible that the AC is contributing to poor indoor air quality. In Dubai and other parts of the UAE, dust storms can indeed leave behind particles and pollutants which may get circulated by your air conditioning system. This could explain why you're noticing an odor in the living room and your son's stuffy nose.

The AC unit itself might not be properly filtering out all these particulates or odors. It’s important to remember that while it does cool and dehumidify, it doesn’t always filter out every type of air pollutant, especially if the filters aren't changed regularly.

In Dubai, as in many places, there are no specific regulations mandating certain levels of indoor air quality after dust storms but local guidelines recommend regular maintenance of your HVAC system to ensure better indoor air quality. It's a good idea to have a professional inspect and clean your AC unit.

If you're concerned about the situation or if symptoms persist, i would definitely recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for an inspection. They can assess whether the odor is from dust particles or other contaminants that need removal. Regular maintenance of your AC system and using air purifiers with HEPA filters could also help in reducing indoor pollutants.

Remember, keeping a healthy indoor environment is crucial especially when you're dealing with external factors like dust storms. Taking proactive steps now might prevent more serious health issues down the line.

Take care and stay safe!
