Is the odor from mold in my storage box?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had a few weeks ago, I’ve noticed a strange odor coming from the basement where our storage boxes are kept. The smell is particularly bad when the AC turns on and seems to come from inside one specific box that contains old blankets and clothes my kids used last winter. Is there a way to clean this up or should we be concerned about potential mold or other issues?

Hi there,

The odor from the storage box could indeed be due to mold. After those heavy dust storms we've had in Dubai, moisture levels can spike and create conditions favorable for mold growth. The AC turning on might be circulating that smell throughout your home.

In Dubai, it's important to be aware of potential health risks associated with mold exposure, especially if you have children or anyone with respiratory issues. Mold spores can trigger allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems. In fact, the UAE Ministry of Health advises taking precautionary measures against indoor air pollution like mold.

Given that the smell is coming from a specific box containing old blankets and clothes, it's crucial to address this situation quickly before any damage worsens. I'd recommend opening the box carefully in well-ventilated area outside your home, if possible, to check for visible signs of mold such as discoloration or fuzzy growth.

If you spot any mold, don't attempt DIY cleanup unless the affected area is less than 10 square feet and you're sure about what you’re doing. Larger areas require professional intervention to ensure complete removal and prevent re-growth.

Remember that in Dubai and UAE, it’s a good idea to call in professionals for such issues. They have the knowledge and equipment to handle mold safely and effectively. You can reach out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email them at hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection.

Do not ignore this smell, as it could lead to bigger problems down the line. Stay safe and keep your home healthy!
