Is urgent AC cleaning needed for my allergies?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our master bedroom has been making my allergies go crazy for the last three weeks, especially at night. Every time it kicks on, my nose gets runny and my eyes get so itchy. I live in an older building in Bur Dubai and I’m worried there’s mold or dust built up inside the unit. How urgent is it that I get a professional to clean the ducts, and is this something that can quickly get worse for my health?

Based on your description, this absolutely needs to be addressed urgently. What you're experiencing is a classic sign of a contaminated AC system, and it's very common here in older Bur Dubai buildings. The combination of high humidity and dust creates a perfect environment for mold spores, dust mites, and other allergens to thrive inside the ductwork and evaporator coil.

Every time the unit kicks on, it's blasting those irritants directly into your bedroom, which explains your worsening symptoms at night. For some individuals, prolonged exposure can escalate from allergic rhinitis to more serious respiratory issues, so I wouldn't recommend waiting.

Under the Dubai Municipality public health regulations, landlords are responsible for ensuring AC systems are clean and well-maintained to prevent such health hazards. However, proving it requires a professional inspection. We use borescopes to look inside the ducts and air quality tests to identify specific spore types and concentrations.

My strong recommendation is to get a professional hygienization service, not just a basic cleaning. This involves using specialized EPA-approved disinfectants and HEPA vacuums to properly eradicate the biological growth at its source. Please stop using the unit in the bedroom until it's serviced.

Call our team for an immediate inspection. We can assess the severity and provide the necessary certification for your landlord if remediation is needed. You can reach us at 800-MOLDS or 800-66537, or email hello@saniservice.com. Don't let this get worse; your health is the priority.
