Managing post-sandstorm dust in my villa or call professionals?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the dust that's settled on everything in our villa in Al Barsha since the last sandstorm. I've tried wiping surfaces but the fine dust just seems to get pushed around and comes back within a day. Is this something I can manage with a regular vacuum and some tricks, or should I just call in a professional cleaning company to do a deep clean?

Post-sandstorm dust in Al Barsha is a fine, abrasive silt that standard wiping and most vacuums simply recirculate. The region's high humidity can cause it to bind to surfaces and its microscopic particles are a known respiratory irritant, especially for children.
Start with a HEPA-filter vacuum; it's the only type that can trap the fine silica particles instead of blowing them back into the room. Use a damp microfiber cloth for surfaces—dry dusting will just disperse it. Ensure your AC filters are clean or upgraded to a higher MERV rating, as your system is constantly pulling in and circulating outdoor air. For a persistent cough, a deep clean is often necessary. Standard cleaning may not address the dust that has infiltrated HVAC ducts, behind furniture, and inside closets. Professional remediation companies use truck-mounted HEPA filtration systems that create negative pressure, actively pulling dust out of the home rather than redistributing it. They can also clean inside your AC ductwork, a common reservoir for fine dust that gets blown back into rooms. If symptoms persist after a thorough cleaning, consider an indoor air quality assessment to rule out other allergens that may have been stirred up, like mould spores or dust mites, which thrive in Dubai's climate. |
