Persistent shower mold in Dubai: DIY or professional cleaning?« Back to Previous Page

My master bathroom’s shower grout has developed a persistent black mold, especially in the corners, and no matter how much I scrub with bleach spray, it comes back within a week. I’m worried the humidity from the shower is making it worse and it might be spreading behind the tiles. Is this a job for a deep cleaning service with special tools, or is there a DIY product strong enough to kill it for good in our Dubai climate?

Persistent black mould in shower grout, particularly in Dubai's high humidity, indicates a deeper moisture problem that surface cleaning cannot fix. Bleach only removes surface discoloration but does not kill the root hyphae (filaments) penetrating the porous grout.

In our climate, the constant cycle of high bathroom humidity and year-round AC use creates a perfect environment for mould to thrive and return. If it reappears within a week of scrubbing, the issue is likely behind the tiles or within the wall substrate. A professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess if moisture has compromised the sealing or cavity behind the tiles.

For a lasting solution, a deep cleaning service using commercial-grade steam extraction or antimicrobial sealing is often necessary. These methods reach temperatures that kill the mould at its root and can reseal the grout to prevent rapid regrowth. Look for providers who can explain the source of the moisture intrusion and offer a treatment plan with a verifiable warranty on the work.
