Professional cleaning needed for post-sandstorm dust?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from all the dust that's settled on everything in our Mirdif villa after the recent sandstorm. The windowsills are covered in a fine red powder and it's even gotten inside the cupboards. I'm wondering if I need to hire a professional cleaning company with those big HEPA filter vacuums or if I can tackle this myself with our regular vacuum and some microfiber cloths?

For the fine, pervasive dust from a sandstorm in Mirdif, a professional deep clean is strongly recommended, especially with children experiencing respiratory symptoms. This dust is not just sand; it's a complex mix of silica, minerals, and potential pollutants that is extremely fine and can become airborne again with standard cleaning.
Your regular vacuum, unless it has a certified HEPA filter, will simply blast the finest particles back into the air through its exhaust. Microfiber cloths are excellent for trapping dust, but for this volume, you'd need a vast quantity of them and would still risk redistributing the dust during cleaning. Professional teams use industrial HEPA-filtered vacuum systems that capture over 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns, preventing them from recirculating. They also employ techniques like damp-wiping and advanced air scrubbing to safely remove the sediment from every surface, including inside cupboards and from soft furnishings. Given the coughs, the priority is to remove the irritant without exacerbating the problem. After the deep clean, the focus should shift to your AC system, which has likely pulled in a massive amount of this fine dust. A full AC and duct cleaning by a reputable company is the next critical step to prevent the system from continuously blowing the remaining dust back into your home long after surface cleaning is done. |
