Safe DIY to clean high-rise apartment windows from dust?« Back to Previous Page

My apartment's windows have gotten a permanent dusty film on the outside from all the recent construction nearby in Jumeirah Village Circle. I'm on the 18th floor and the ledge is really narrow, so I'm nervous about even attempting to reach them myself. Is this the kind of thing I absolutely need to call a professional cleaning company for, or is there a safe DIY trick I'm missing?

Cleaning high-rise windows with a narrow ledge from the 18th floor is not recommended as a DIY project due to the significant fall risk. Dubai Civil Defence regulations and building management policies typically mandate that such work be performed by licensed professionals with proper safety equipment, including harnesses and fall protection gear, for any elevation above a certain height.

For the dusty film from JVC construction, a professional service with water-fed pole systems is the safest and most effective method. They can clean from inside your apartment or the building's exterior without risky ledge work. This is especially important with Dubai's high humidity, as improper cleaning can leave streaks that bind with dust and require more frequent cleaning.

If your building management arranges periodic facade cleaning, you might only need to address the interior side. For a temporary interior clean to improve visibility, a microfibre cloth and a vinegar-water solution can work, but it won't resolve the external film. Ultimately, for exterior surfaces at that height, engaging a certified and insured cleaning company is the only safe and compliant option.
