Should dampness be due to hotel's cleanliness?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a persistent dampness in my bedroom closet, which is right next to the hotel's storage area. It’s strange because we’ve lived here for two years and never experienced this before. Should I be concerned about the hotel's cleaning standards or could it be something else?

Absolutely, dampness in your hotel room, especially in such a location next to the storage area, is indeed concerning. In Dubai and the UAE, there are regulations that hotels must adhere to ensure proper indoor environmental quality (IEQ) for their guests. The UAE Building Code and the Department of Municipal Affairs and Anti-corruption (DMAAC) in Dubai have stringent standards regarding moisture control and indoor air quality.

It's quite possible that this dampness could be due to poor cleaning practices or perhaps even a plumbing issue, considering its persistence over time. However, it could also be indicative of other underlying problems such as structural defects or inadequate ventilation.

To get a clear picture of the situation, I would recommend contacting a professional environmental inspection and remediation company like Saniservice for a thorough assessment. They can provide a detailed report on the source of moisture and recommend appropriate solutions to prevent further issues.

In terms of what you can do now, make sure to document any signs of dampness, including photos or notes about the time and location. This will be useful information if you decide to pursue an inspection. Also, ensure that your room is well-ventilated by opening windows when possible (although it's important to check with hotel staff first as they may have specific instructions).

Remember, in Dubai, mold growth can rapidly develop under damp conditions, which could pose health risks especially for guests who are sensitive to allergens or have respiratory issues. Therefore, addressing the issue promptly is crucial.

If you feel uncomfortable waiting for a professional inspection, consider speaking with hotel management about your concerns and request an immediate assessment of the area. They should be able to provide a quick response and take necessary actions to ensure guest comfort and safety.
