Should I address water damage or report to landlord?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a bit of water damage in the corner of the living room where I keep our small retail items. It’s a rental, and we’ve lived here for two years now, but I’m not sure if it’s my responsibility to address this or if I should bring it up with the landlord first. Should I clean and dry the area myself, or is that something the landlord should handle?

Absolutely important to take action and report the water damage promptly. In UAE, particularly in Dubai, landlords are typically responsible for major issues such as structural damage due to water leaks or flooding. However, it's crucial you handle this properly.

Firstly, document everything - snap pics of the damage and make notes on when you noticed it. This evidence can be vital if any disputes arise. Secondly, reach out to your landlord immediately. If they're unresponsive, consider informing the building management or property owner association (POA) if applicable.

If the situation seems severe, such as large areas affected, call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional assessment. They can help you understand the extent of damage and advise on necessary steps. Don't forget to ask for their recommendations on handling mold growth, which is especially prevalent in humid environments like Dubai.

Remember, water damage left unaddressed could lead to more serious issues like mold development or structural weakening over time. It's better to nip these problems in the bud. By acting swiftly and seeking professional advice, you can ensure a safe and healthy living environment for yourself and your family.

And one last tip - keep an eye on any changes in air quality or unusual odors. These could be signs of hidden mold growth which needs immediate attention. Stay proactive and take care of your indoor environmental quality.
