Should I clean ducts due to allergies and odor?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last spring, I noticed a significant increase in allergies and a musty odor throughout our new villa. The bedroom on the second floor seems to be hit the hardest, even though it’s near the ducts. Given how often my family has been under the weather lately, I’m really concerned about the air quality and want to make sure we’re not dealing with any lingering dust or mold in the ductwork. Should I consider professional duct cleaning, and if so, what signs should I look for that might indicate a need for it?

Absolutely, duct cleaning is something you should seriously consider. In the UAE and especially in Dubai, where we experience such dramatic weather changes, it’s pretty common to see an increase in allergens and odors in our homes. Heavy dust storms can introduce a lot of particulates into your HVAC system, which over time could lead to mold growth or just plain old dust buildup.

In Dubai, there aren’t any specific regulations that mandate duct cleaning, but the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD) does recommend regular maintenance and inspection for proper air quality. Considering how often you've been dealing with allergies and a musty smell, it’s definitely worth having an expert take a look at your system.

The bedroom on the second floor being affected more could be due to its proximity to the ducts or simply because of less ventilation. Dust storms can push particulates into your HVAC system, which then circulate through your home, particularly in areas with less air movement like upper floors.

You should definitely consider a professional inspection and cleaning if you're experiencing these issues. Signs that might indicate a need for duct cleaning include a noticeable increase in allergy symptoms, a musty or moldy odor, or visible dirt and dust inside the ducts or vents. In Dubai’s humid climate, humidity levels can promote mold growth, especially if there are any leaks or condensation issues.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. These professionals will be able to assess your system's condition and recommend a cleaning schedule that fits your needs. Remember, a clean duct system not only improves air quality but also helps in maintaining the efficiency of your HVAC equipment.

Cleaning isn't just about allergy relief; it’s crucial for overall health and comfort. Make sure you’re doing everything possible to ensure your family is breathing the best air possible.
