Should I clean ducts due to cough and runny nose?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm a few weeks ago, I noticed a persistent dry cough and runny nose whenever we stay in our bedroom, which is directly above the duct system. The AC seems to kick up some kind of debris every time it runs. Have you experienced similar issues or should I consider having the ducts cleaned?

Absolutely, it sounds like your symptoms could be linked to the dusty air circulating through your ducts. In dubai and uae, we do see similar complaints post storms due to the influx of dust into building systems. Persistent cough and runny nose can indeed be caused by allergens or irritants present in poorly maintained ductwork.

In my experience, when dust storms hit, it's not uncommon for a layer of fine particulates to settle within your HVAC system. When the AC runs, these particles get stirred up and circulated through your home, leading to discomfort especially in areas like your bedroom that might be more sensitive.

Given what you've described, I would highly recommend having your ducts professionally inspected and cleaned. The emirates have specific guidelines for maintaining indoor environmental quality which include regular servicing of HVAC systems, particularly after events like sand storms.

You can contact professional services such as 800-MOLDS (or 800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. These companies have the expertise and equipment to thoroughly clean your ducts, eliminating any dust, mold spores, or other irritants that may be causing your symptoms.

Remember, regular maintenance is key in keeping a healthy indoor environment, especially here where we face such extreme weather conditions. It's not just about cleaning; ensuring proper airflow and system efficiency can also help reduce the spread of these particles.

Take care and don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions or need further advice on how to proceed.
