Should I clean ducts myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a lot of debris collecting around the grills in my kitchen exhaust system. My dining room also has a musty smell that I didn't have before. Given how old our apartment is, I’m not sure if this is normal or if it’s time for a proper cleaning. Can someone with experience in duct cleaning recommend whether I should try to clean it myself or call a professional?

Absolutely, it sounds like your apartment might need some attention. In the UAE, especially in areas like Dubai, dust storms can indeed bring a lot of debris into our homes and buildings. The musty smell you're noticing could be due to accumulated dust, mold spores, or other particles that have settled over time.

Cleaning ducts yourself is certainly an option, but it might not always be the most effective approach. Ducts are complex systems with numerous bends and tight spaces that can harbor allergens, bacteria, and fungi. Professional duct cleaning services in Dubai often use specialized equipment like vacuum trucks, brushes, and vacuums designed to reach all areas of the ductwork.

If you decide to DIY, make sure to take proper precautions such as wearing protective gear (like masks, goggles, and gloves) and ensuring adequate ventilation during the process. However, this might not be enough for thorough cleaning, especially if your system is quite old or has multiple levels in your home.

Given the age of your apartment and the issues you're experiencing, it would be wise to call a professional. Here at Saniservice, we specialize in indoor environmental quality assessments and duct cleaning. Our team uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure that all areas are properly cleaned and sanitized, helping to improve air quality and potentially saving you from any health risks associated with poor ventilation.
