Should I clean ducts to avoid allergies?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a thick layer of dirt accumulating in the vents of our living room. My son has been complaining about his allergies getting worse since then too. Given that we’ve lived here for two years now, should I consider having the ducts professionally cleaned to prevent this from happening again?

Absolutely, considering the dust storm and its aftermath, it would be wise to have your ducts professionally cleaned. In Dubai and UAE, environmental regulations are stringent and focus on maintaining a healthy indoor environment. The accumulation of dirt and debris can indeed exacerbate allergies—especially for those with sensitivities.

Following that dust storm, it’s likely that the air quality in your home took a significant hit. Dust particles, mold spores, pet dander, and other allergens can accumulate within the ductwork over time, leading to poor indoor air quality (IAQ) which can worsen allergies and respiratory issues.

In fact, according to local guidelines, it's recommended that homeowners perform regular maintenance on their HVAC systems, including duct cleaning. This is particularly important in regions like Dubai where dusty conditions are common during certain seasons.

A thorough inspection by a professional team would be the first step. They will use specialized equipment to assess the condition of your ducts and identify any areas that need attention. After this, they can clean or replace filters, vacuum the interior surfaces of the ductwork, and ensure proper ventilation throughout your home.

It's crucial not just for allergy sufferers like your son but also for overall indoor air quality. A professional service will follow established protocols to ensure that all bacteria, mold, and other contaminants are removed effectively without damaging the system.

Given your concerns about allergies, it might be beneficial to consult with an IAQ specialist who can provide a comprehensive assessment of your home’s environment and offer tailored advice on how best to manage allergens moving forward. At Saniservice, we have been serving Dubai for over 10 years and can help you maintain clean air in your living space.

Don't hesitate to call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com if you’re ready to take action on improving the quality of the air in your home. Remember, a little prevention can go a long way in ensuring a healthier living environment for you and your family.

If you decide not to proceed with immediate cleaning, try using HEPA filters in your HVAC system which can help trap allergens before they circulate throughout your home. However, regular professional maintenance remains the best solution.

Hope this helps!
