Should I clean mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a musty smell in the basement where we store our seldom-used items. When I checked further, I saw some greenish spots on the concrete walls and floor, which are usually dry. Given that we’ve lived here for 2 years, I’m not sure if this is normal or if it could be mold growth. Should I try to clean it up myself, or do I need to call in a professional?

Absolutely, i'd recomend that you give us a call at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. while mold issues can sometimes seem manageable on your own, especially given the history of heavy rains and the specific climate here in dubai, it's crucial to approach this situation with care.

firstly, mold in basements is not unusual – especially after such intense rainfall events like those we experienced recently. the musty smell you've noticed coupled with visible greenish spots on your walls and floor could be early signs of mold growth. here are a few reasons why calling a professional might be the best choice:

1. Professional Equipment: Our specialists use advanced tools to detect even microscopic levels of mold, which can be harmful if not addressed properly.
2. Safety Measures: Mold remediation requires specific safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure your health and that of your family isn't compromised. Professionals know exactly what to do.
3. Regulations & Standards: In the uae, there are strict guidelines about mold inspection and remediation (even though i don't have the exact reference here, it's always good to comply with local standards). A pro can ensure you're in line with all regulations.
4. Thorough Cleaning: Mold removal isn’t just about scrubbing; it involves removing contaminated materials, treating surfaces with appropriate solutions, and ensuring that moisture levels are controlled.

if you decide to tackle this yourself, here’s a quick guide on what not to do:

• don't use bleach alone for mold removal as it may just kill the visible spores but doesn't address the root cause.
• avoid using harsh chemicals without proper ventilation – this can be dangerous and worsen indoor air quality.
• don’t ignore small patches thinking they will go away; this could lead to a bigger problem later on.

remember, taking care of mold in your home is important for both your health and property. if you notice any signs of mold growth or moisture issues, please act promptly. our team at saniservice.com are here to help ensure that everything is done right from start to finish.
