Should I clean my ducts urgently?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm a few weeks ago, I noticed a layer of dirt accumulating on the floor vents in my living room. The AC filter was also extremely dirty. My kids have been complaining of coughing fits especially after playing in the living room where we keep the windows open for fresh air. Should I be concerned about the ducts and is it urgent to get them cleaned?

Absolutely, it sounds like your situation calls for immediate attention. The heavy dust storm coupled with the visible dirt accumulation and the coughing fits experienced by your kids are signs that your ducts need cleaning. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, our climate can contribute to higher levels of airborne particulates which can accumulate within HVAC systems.

First off, it’s important to understand that dust storms can significantly impact indoor air quality (IAQ) and your HVAC system. The heavy particles kicked up by the storm can find their way through even the tightest filters, settling inside ductwork, grilles, and registers over time. This not only reduces the efficiency of your air conditioning but also introduces potential allergens that could affect your family’s health.

Given the symptoms your kids are experiencing, it's highly advisable to get a professional inspection done as soon as possible. In Dubai, regulations under the Environmental Health Authority (EHA) suggest maintaining good indoor air quality and ensuring HVAC systems are regularly serviced, especially after significant weather events like dust storms.

If you decide to proceed with cleaning, make sure to choose a reputable service provider who follows best practices for duct cleaning in the UAE. Look for companies that adhere to standards set by organizations such as the Association of Heating, Piping & Air Conditioning Contractors (AHRI). These professionals will carefully clean your entire HVAC system, including the ducts, using specialized equipment and techniques designed to remove deep-seated dirt without causing damage.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional consultation. Early action can prevent further buildup of contaminants that could lead to more serious health issues down the line. Remember, clean air is essential not just for comfort but also for your family's well-being, especially in such a dry and dusty climate.

Taking these steps will help ensure healthier indoor air quality and potentially improve your HVAC system’s efficiency too.
