Should I clean my HVAC ducts?« Back to Previous Page

After the intense dust storms we had last month, I’ve been noticing a persistent cough and sneezing every time I turn on the AC in my bedroom. My kids have also started complaining of itchy eyes and runny noses, especially at night when we sleep with the windows closed. Should I be concerned about duct cleaning?

Absolutely, given your circumstances, it sounds like duct cleaning could be necessary. The recent dust storms have certainly brought in a lot of particulate matter into the atmosphere and once inside your home through the HVAC system, this can circulate throughout your living space causing discomfort to you and your family.

In Dubai/UAE, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has some regulations regarding indoor air quality but specifics on HVAC systems can be more variable. However, it's wise to ensure that your ductwork is clean especially after such severe weather events. Dust, allergens, mold spores, and other particles can accumulate in the ducts over time leading to a variety of health issues like coughing, sneezing, itching, runny noses, and other respiratory symptoms.

Considering the recent dust storms, it would be prudent to have your HVAC system inspected by professionals. They will be able to assess whether there's any visible or hidden contaminants in your ducts that could be causing these issues. A thorough inspection can include looking for signs of mold growth, checking for insect infestations, and assessing the overall cleanliness of the ductwork.

If the inspection reveals any issues, professional cleaning might be recommended. This process involves using specialized equipment to dislodge and remove accumulated debris from your ducts, ensuring a healthier indoor environment. It's particularly important if you have children or family members with allergies or asthma.

Don't hesitate to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an appointment. They can provide the necessary expertise to address any concerns and help ensure that your home’s air quality is at its best. Remember, clean ducts not only improve indoor air but also enhance the efficiency of your HVAC system, potentially saving you money on energy bills in the long run.

Taking this step could make a significant difference in reducing symptoms for you and your family, making your living environment more comfortable especially during the hot Dubai summers when AC use is high.
