Should I clean the ducts due to dust storms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms last month, I noticed a lot of dirt accumulating in the corners of the living room. The AC filters were quite dirty too, but the worst part is the musty smell that seems to linger even when the air conditioning is off. My kids have been coughing more often lately and I’m worried it might be from all this dust. Should I consider cleaning the ducts?

Absolutely, the dust storms last month in Dubai definitely contributed to an increase of particulates and allergens in your home. Given that you've noticed a significant amount of dirt accumulating and even a lingering musty smell, it's quite probable that your AC ducts are hosting a lot more than just regular dust.

In the UAE, including Dubai, it is highly recommended to get your HVAC system inspected after such severe weather events as these storms can carry in a large volume of particulate matter. The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (ADEA) and other local authorities have guidelines for maintaining good indoor air quality but they don't specifically target duct cleaning post-dust storm; however, it is implied that regular maintenance is crucial.

Cleaning your ducts isn't just about aesthetics or smell - it can significantly impact the health of your household. Dust and dirt buildup in HVAC systems can harbor mold spores, bacteria, and allergens which can exacerbate respiratory issues especially in children. The coughing you've noticed could very well be linked to this accumulation.

I would suggest having a professional inspection done by Saniservice. They are known for their thorough cleaning procedures that not only address visible dirt but also tackle the hard-to-reach areas within your ductwork where pollutants can accumulate. Their services comply with local standards and regulations, ensuring that you get the best possible outcome.

Additionally, once the ducts are cleaned, it’s important to maintain a regular maintenance schedule. This includes changing AC filters regularly (every 3-6 months depending on usage) and having an annual inspection of your entire HVAC system by certified professionals.

Remember, keeping your indoor environment clean is key to maintaining good health. So, don’t hesitate to take action now and ensure that you and your family are breathing the best air possible.
