Should I clean the ducts for damp and AC issues?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a persistent damp smell coming from the ducts of my living room. The AC in my apartment seems to work harder than usual too, even when it's not very hot outside. Given that we’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, should I consider getting the ducts cleaned?

Absolutely, it sounds like your ducts might need some attention. The persistent damp smell and the AC working harder than usual are definitely red flags that could be linked to moisture build-up within the ductwork. In Dubai, given our climate conditions where humidity can be quite high, especially after rain events, this is a common issue.

UAE regulations do recommend periodic maintenance of HVAC systems, including duct cleaning, to ensure optimal performance and occupant comfort. The Abu Dhabi Municipality and other local authorities emphasize the importance of keeping your indoor air quality in check, particularly for those with allergies or respiratory issues.

Given that you've lived there for two years and this is only now becoming an issue, it’s likely that over time, dust, debris, and moisture have accumulated within the ducts. This can lead to mold growth which, as we know from recent events, can start causing unpleasant odors and other health concerns.

I would strongly recommend a professional inspection of your ductwork. At SaniService, our team of experts can assess the condition of your system and determine if cleaning is necessary. We use advanced equipment like negative pressure systems to thoroughly clean the ducts without damaging them. This process not only clears out debris but also helps in removing any mold or mildew that may have formed.

Remember, keeping a close eye on your HVAC system’s performance can save you from bigger problems down the line. Regular maintenance is key to maintaining comfort and efficiency, as well as ensuring clean air for you and your family.
