Should I professionally deep clean my dusty home?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I'm starting to think it's because of the dusty air lately. I just pulled the sofa out from the wall in our living room in Jumeirah and the amount of dust bunnies and sand buildup was shocking, like it hadn't been cleaned in months even though we vacuum weekly. Is this something I need to get a professional deep clean for immediately, or can I handle it myself with a good vacuum over the weekend?

Dust accumulation in Dubai homes is exceptionally high due to our arid climate and frequent dust storms, which can easily infiltrate homes. Weekly vacuuming often misses the deep dust and fine particulate matter that settles behind furniture and in corners. For the buildup you've described, a thorough DIY clean is a good first step.
Start by using a vacuum with a true HEPA filter, as standard filters often just recirculate the finest, most irritating dust particles back into the air. Move all furniture and vacuum underneath and behind it. Follow by damp mopping hard floors and steam cleaning carpets to capture the residual dust that vacuuming leaves behind. Wear a mask while cleaning to avoid inhaling the stirred-up particles. If your children's coughing persists after a comprehensive clean, the issue may be more deeply embedded in your soft furnishings or HVAC system. Air conditioning ducts can act as a reservoir for fine dust, mould, and allergens, continuously redistributing them. In such cases, a professional deep clean that includes upholstery and potentially duct cleaning can make a measurable difference in indoor air quality. This is particularly relevant in Dubai, where we rely on AC year-round. |
