Should I report mold to building management?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a persistent mold growth on the ceiling of the shared hallway with our neighbors. It's been there for at least two weeks now, but it seems to be getting worse despite my attempts to clean it with vinegar. Should I try cleaning it myself again or should we involve our building management?

Absolutely, you should definitely report the mold to building management. In the UAE and specifically in Dubai, the environment can be quite humid making it a perfect breeding ground for molds, especially after heavy rainfalls which have been more frequent due to climate changes.

In accordance with local regulations like those set out by the Dubai Municipality, it's important that all shared spaces within buildings are maintained to ensure occupant health and safety. Mold can not only cause unsightly damage but also lead to respiratory issues for residents if left untreated. The guidelines mandate regular inspections and prompt action when such issues arise.

Given your attempts with vinegar haven't resolved the situation, it suggests there may be a more significant mold problem that requires professional intervention. Cleaning mold by yourself might exacerbate the issue or spread spores further through careless handling.

It’s recommended to call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an inspection and remediation plan. These professionals have the necessary knowledge, equipment, and expertise to safely remove mold without causing additional damage.

Involving building management is crucial as they are responsible for maintaining shared spaces under the Property Management Regulations 2014. They should be able to address the issue promptly by either providing cleaning services or initiating a broader maintenance process if needed.

Remember, early detection and action can prevent more extensive issues down the line. Mold growth can lead to structural damage over time if not dealt with properly. So don't delay in contacting them to ensure a safe living environment for all residents.

Also, keep an eye on any health changes among yourself or your family members that could be linked to mold exposure. Should you notice symptoms like coughing, wheezing, or irritated eyes, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional right away.
