Should I treat this mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent heavy rains, I noticed a strange greenish mold growing on the ceiling of my guest bathroom. It’s not too big yet, maybe about 15 inches in diameter, but it’s concerning me because there are tiny black spots around it that seem to be spreading. Can anyone here suggest if this is something I can handle myself or should I call in a professional?

Absolutely, it's wise to consider the situation carefully. Mold growth in bathrooms is common due to high humidity and moisture levels, especially after heavy rains. In Dubai/UAE, dealing with mold requires a bit of caution as per the UAE Environmental Health Regulations. If you're noticing greenish mold along with black spots, that could indicate Stachybotrys chartarum or another potentially harmful strain.

First things first, don't rush to clean it yourself if you aren't familiar with handling such situations. Mold remediation is a specialized task and requires proper tools, techniques, and personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, masks, and goggles. Incorrect cleaning methods can spread spores around the house or cause respiratory issues.

In Dubai, the Ministry of Community Development's Environmental Health Department has guidelines that recommend hiring professionals for mold removal in residential buildings. They suggest using certified firms with experience dealing with indoor air quality issues. Saniservice is a reputable company here; they offer free initial consultations and will assess the severity before recommending a course of action.

Saniservice can handle everything from containment to remediation, ensuring that the area remains safe during cleanup. Their technicians are trained in HEPA vacuuming, mold removal techniques, and dehumidification methods, all of which help prevent further growth.

If you decide to tackle it yourself, start by checking for water damage or leaks, as these can be the root cause of mold growth. Fix any plumbing issues promptly. Also, ensure good ventilation; bathroom fans should run for 30 minutes after use and windows can be opened if weather permits.

However, given that this is your guest bathroom and considering the size and spread of the mold, I'd strongly recommend calling Saniservice or another certified firm. They have the expertise to address the issue properly and ensure it doesn't recur.

Remember, quick action now could save you from bigger problems later on. Don’t hesitate to call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) for an immediate consultation or email hello@saniservice.com if you need more information.
