Should I worry about musty smell after dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a distinct musty odor in my living room that won't go away. It’s especially noticeable when I turn on the air conditioner, and it’s making my throat really dry and scratchy. My kids have been coughing more frequently since then too. How urgent is it to address this issue, and what steps should I take right away?

Absolutely, you should be concerned about the musty smell after that dust storm. In dubai, we see an increase in such odors during sandstorms and high humidity periods due to the local climatic conditions. The musty smell is usually a sign of mold growth which can pose significant health risks, especially for kids and elderly folks.

The UAE has strict regulations regarding indoor air quality; specifically, Law No. 12 of 2007 on Building Codes requires all buildings to maintain a healthy environment free from pollutants like mold and mildew. Given your symptoms and the fact that the smell is getting stronger with the AC, it’s important to address this promptly.

Firstly, ensure you check for obvious signs of moisture such as damp patches or condensation in corners, windowsills, or near air conditioners. If you notice any, immediate action is needed. Clean these areas thoroughly and dry them out as soon as possible.

Ventilation is key! Open windows to allow fresh air into your home if the weather permits. This can help reduce humidity levels which are conducive for mold growth. Also, use dehumidifiers in affected rooms to keep moisture at bay.

However, given that you’ve had the issue since the storm and it’s affecting your family's health, I would highly recommend calling a professional for an inspection. At Saniservice, we provide comprehensive indoor air quality assessments that can pinpoint the source of your musty odor. Our team will use advanced tools to detect mold spores even in hard-to-reach areas.

Don’t delay; act now to safeguard your family’s health. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a quick appointment. Remember, early intervention is crucial for effective remediation and prevention of future occurrences.
