Should I worry about musty smell near windows?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a musty smell coming from the corner of the living room near the windows. My landlord hasn't responded to my messages about it, and I'm not sure if it's something they're responsible for or if I should have mentioned it sooner. Has anyone here experienced similar issues with mold in their rental?

Hey there! It's not uncommon for musty smells to occur after heavy rains, especially near windows. This can be due to mold growth and it’s something you should definitely take seriously. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, we've seen several instances where moisture from rain or high humidity has led to mold issues, especially in apartments with poor ventilation.

Firstly, you should not ignore this smell. Mold can cause health issues like allergies and respiratory problems, so it's important to address it promptly. The UAE has strict building codes regarding indoor air quality and mold control, but it’s your landlord who is responsible for maintaining the property to these standards.

Since your landlord hasn't responded, i'd strongly advise you to get in touch with them again or consider writing a formal complaint if necessary. In case of no response, you might want to contact an independent professional for inspection. Saniservice can help with that – just give us a call at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.

In the meantime, try to keep the area well-ventilated by opening windows when possible and using fans to circulate air. Avoid using dehumidifiers without proper maintenance as they can lead to further moisture issues if not cleaned regularly.

If you decide to go ahead with a professional inspection, make sure to choose one that is accredited and has experience in mold remediation in the UAE. They will be able to assess the extent of the issue and recommend appropriate solutions.

Remember, early detection and prompt action are key when dealing with mold issues. Don’t let this problem fester – take charge of it now!
