Should we clean ducts more frequently due to dust storms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a significant amount of dust accumulating on all the surfaces in my bedroom, especially near the vents. The AC filter is also extremely dirty with a layer of debris that seems to have been collecting over several months. Given how much dust got into the house despite our efforts to keep windows closed, I’m worried about what’s inside the ducts. Could this be contributing to my kids’ frequent coughing? How often should we really be having the ducts cleaned in a place like Dubai where sand and dust are such a problem?

Absolutely, the recent dust storm has indeed highlighted the importance of duct cleaning in your home. In dubai and the uae, we experience frequent sandstorms which can introduce a significant amount of particulate matter into the air. This can have serious implications on indoor environmental quality (IEQ), especially for those with allergies or respiratory conditions.

According to the Dubai Municipality, it’s crucial to maintain proper ventilation and filtration systems to protect your family's health. Given that you've noticed considerable dust accumulation in your bedroom and AC filter, it's quite possible that this is also happening inside your ductwork. Over time, these accumulated particles can circulate through your HVAC system, affecting the air quality throughout your home.

Dust storms pose unique challenges as they bring in a mixture of fine sand, pollen, and other allergens which can exacerbate respiratory issues like coughing. The frequent cleaning recommended for your AC filter is only one step; the entire ductwork should also be inspected and cleaned to ensure no contaminants are being recirculated.

In Dubai, it's advisable to schedule professional duct cleaning at least once a year, but given the dust storms we often experience, more frequent cleanings might be necessary. After such events, especially if you notice increased respiratory issues in your children or family members, it would be prudent to have an inspection done by a certified HVAC company.

Remember, proper maintenance of your HVAC system can significantly improve indoor air quality and reduce the risk of health issues related to dust and allergens. If you're concerned about the recent storm's impact on your home’s ductwork, contact us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection and cleaning service.
