Should we clean ducts ourselves or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent construction work that took place right next to our living room window, we've noticed a weird dust cloud coming from the air vents whenever the AC is on. The kids have been complaining of itchy throats and my wife thinks it might be due to all the dust being circulated. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, so I’m not sure if it’s normal or something we should address now. Should I try cleaning the ducts myself, or is it best to call in a professional?

Hi there,

Duct cleaning is indeed an important aspect of maintaining the indoor air quality in your home. In the UAE, particularly Dubai, it's crucial to ensure that the air you and your family breathe is clean and healthy, especially after construction work which can stir up dust and other particles.

Given what you've described - noticing a dust cloud from the vents and experiencing symptoms like itchy throats, it sounds like it might be worth considering professional duct cleaning. Dust and debris that have accumulated over time could indeed contribute to these issues, as well as potentially harbouring mold spores or allergens which can affect your family's health.

Cleaning ducts yourself is definitely possible but comes with its own set of challenges. You'd need specialized knowledge about the proper techniques and tools needed to do a thorough job. Also, accessing all parts of the ductwork system can be tricky without the right equipment. In Dubai, it's recommended that you call in professionals who have experience dealing with local conditions and regulations.

In terms of regulations, while there aren't strict laws governing duct cleaning, it is advised to use services that are reliable and follow best practices. In Dubai, companies like Saniservice (call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com) offer professional duct cleaning services that adhere to industry standards.

Remember, a good inspection before cleaning can also be beneficial. This helps identify any existing issues such as mold growth which might need remediation. Post-cleaning, a follow-up inspection ensures the job was done correctly and all contaminants were removed.

So, while it’s possible to clean ducts yourself, for peace of mind and effective results, it would likely be best to go with a professional service provider like Saniservice. They can also provide valuable advice on maintaining good indoor air quality moving forward.

Hope this helps,
