Urgent: AC dust making toddler sick, need duct cleaning now?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Al Barsha has started pushing out a really fine dust that settles on everything, and my toddler has been sneezing non-stop for a week. I can't remember the last time we had the ducts cleaned since we moved in almost four years ago. With this constant sand and construction nearby, I’m worried it’s a bigger problem. How urgently should I be calling a service, or is this something I can put off for a month?

With a toddler experiencing symptoms and visible dust, this requires prompt attention. The fine dust is likely a combination of accumulated particulate and potentially degraded duct insulation, agitated by the constant AC operation needed here.

In Dubai's climate, with high ambient dust and year-round AC use, duct systems can become significant reservoirs. The humidity can also lead to microbial growth on accumulated dust. A professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess the contamination level and identify if the ducts themselves are deteriorating, which is not uncommon in older villas.

You cannot effectively clean this yourself. Proper duct cleaning requires specialized negative air machines and agitation tools to prevent simply redistributing the contaminants throughout your home. Look for a provider that uses a video inspection to show you the inside of the ducts and can provide a clear scope of work. The process typically takes a few hours for a standard villa.

Given the proximity to construction and the health symptoms, scheduling a service within the next week or two is advisable. It is not typically a same-day emergency, but delaying it for a month will likely prolong your toddler's discomfort and allow more dust to accumulate. Ensure any company you hire follows NADCA standards and can explain their process clearly.
