Who cleans childcare areas when renting?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed water stains on the ceiling of my bedroom, which is right above the living room where my children play. The area under the stairs in the living room also has a bit of dirt that collects from their shoes. After two years here, I’m not sure if cleaning these areas should be my responsibility or if it’s something the landlord handles. What are the typical expectations for cleaning childcare-related spaces when renting an apartment?

Cleaning childcare areas is indeed a significant concern and responsibility. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, landlords are generally expected to maintain the premises in good condition but it's also important for tenants to keep their living spaces clean and hygienic. When dealing with water stains on your bedroom ceiling due to an issue directly above, it may be wise to have a professional assessment done as per local building codes.

In the UAE, particularly under the UAE Civil Transactions Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 24 of 1985), landlords are obligated to maintain the structural integrity and general condition of the rented property. However, tenants also have responsibilities, such as maintaining cleanliness in their living areas. If water stains or other issues appear due to problems above your living space, it's advisable to document any damage and inform both your landlord and a professional building inspector.

For dirt under the stairs, which can accumulate from your children’s shoes, regular cleaning is recommended. This not only keeps the area hygienic but also helps in preventing mold growth or other structural issues that could arise from moisture trapped in carpets or flooring. It's good practice to use a vacuum cleaner and perhaps a damp cloth for such areas.

If you're unsure about how often or what methods to employ, consider calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for professional advice tailored to your specific situation. They can provide guidance on the best cleaning practices based on local environmental conditions.

Remember, maintaining a clean and healthy environment is crucial, not just for hygiene but also for ensuring the safety of children. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance can help avoid bigger issues down the line.
