Who cleans ocean debris from balconies?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent storm, I noticed a lot of seaweed and debris washing up on our balcony, which overlooks the ocean. The rental agreement is pretty vague about who is responsible for cleaning this area, and I’m unsure if it’s my responsibility or something the management should handle. Can anyone advise on typical responsibilities in such situations?

Hey there,
In the UAE, especially in coastal areas like Dubai, it's quite common for balconies to be hit by seaweed and other debris after storms. The responsibility for cleaning such messes can sometimes be a grey area, but typically speaking, it falls on the tenant or the property owner, depending on the terms of your lease agreement. In general, most rental agreements in Dubai are very specific about maintenance responsibilities. If yours is vague like you mentioned, i suggest you check with your landlord or management company to clarify who's supposed to handle this type of cleanup. It’s important to do so before you start any work to ensure that you're not violating the terms of your contract. If your agreement states that you’re responsible for balcony maintenance, you should clean up promptly after a storm. A quick rinse with water or using a broom can usually get rid of most debris and seaweed. Just be sure to dry the area well afterward as moisture can cause mold growth, which is something you’d definitely want to avoid. However, if your agreement states that it's the property management’s responsibility, they should take care of it soon after a storm, typically within 24-48 hours. If you haven’t seen any action from them and the debris remains for an extended period, you might need to bring this up with the management. For serious cases or if you're unsure about how to clean safely, i recommend calling in professionals. For mold inspection and remediation services, you can reach out to us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. Remember, keeping your living space clean and free from potential health hazards is key, but it’s also important to ensure that you're not overstepping your obligations as per the lease agreement. Always stay in line with what's expected! Hope this helps, A Concerned Indoor Environmental Expert |
