Who is responsible for cleaning in rental property?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running a bit differently lately, and when I went into the bedroom closet last week, there was an odd dust cloud as I opened it. It’s only been a few weeks since Ramadan started, but I’m not sure if it’s normal for the cleaning to take this long or who is responsible for it in a rental property. Given that we have guests coming over soon, should I be doing anything about it myself?

Cleaning responsibilities for rental properties can sometimes be a bit blurry, but in the UAE and specifically Dubai, it's generally agreed that landlords are responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the property. However, tenants do have certain obligations as well.

In your case, regarding the dust cloud you noticed in the bedroom closet, this might indicate some neglect or perhaps just the accumulation of dust during Ramadan when many people are preoccupied with festive activities and social gatherings. Typically, a landlord should be responsible for regular cleaning, but sometimes it's good to check if there were specific instructions about cleaning during the holy month.

Given that you have guests coming over soon, here are some recommendations:

Firstly, communicate with your landlord or property manager regarding the situation. It’s always better to discuss any concerns directly and find a solution together. If the issue is not addressed promptly, then it might be time for a professional inspection. In Dubai, there isn’t a specific regulation that mandates regular cleaning during Ramadan, but maintaining cleanliness can greatly enhance living conditions.

If you decide to take matters into your own hands before contacting your landlord, make sure to use appropriate cleaning products and methods to avoid any damage to the AC unit or other parts of the apartment. Be cautious not to overuse water in the closet area as it might affect the structural integrity of wooden furniture or walls.

Should the situation persist or if you notice other issues like mold growth or poor air quality, I strongly recommend getting a professional inspection. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive indoor environmental assessments that can help identify any hidden problems and provide solutions to ensure your apartment is safe and healthy for your guests.

Remember, keeping your apartment clean not only improves the living conditions but also helps in maintaining good relations with your landlord. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com if you need assistance with professional cleaning or inspection services.
