Who is responsible for cleaning outdoor dust?« Back to Previous Page

After the dust storm last week, I noticed a layer of fine gray powder on every surface in my bedroom, even though the windows were tightly shut. It’s been there for days now, and I’m not sure if it’s from outside or if the landlord should be addressing this. Should I clean it myself or is it something they are responsible for?

In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, dust storms can indeed be quite frequent. When it comes to cleaning up after such an event, the general rule is that tenants are responsible for maintaining their own living spaces. However, if the layer of fine gray powder you're observing is due to a persistent issue or if it's significantly affecting your health and comfort, it might be worth reaching out to your landlord.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality and Dubai Municipality do have regulations regarding building maintenance and cleanliness, but these are usually more focused on communal areas rather than individual units. For the most part, it is expected that tenants handle their own cleaning needs after a dust storm, especially if the windows were tightly shut during the event.

However, if you notice an excessive amount of dust or if this layer has been present for several days without any noticeable reduction in outdoor dust levels, it might be wise to contact your landlord. They may need to look into potential gaps in their building's sealing and ventilation systems which could allow dust ingress even with windows closed. In some cases, they might also check the condition of air conditioning filters or other internal mechanisms that could be collecting dust.

If you're unsure about what steps to take next, or if the issue is causing significant discomfort, consider reaching out to a professional environmental inspection and remediation company for advice. At SaniService, we can help assess the situation and provide recommendations on how best to proceed. You can call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email us at hello@saniservice.com for a detailed evaluation.

Remember, it's always better to be proactive when dealing with indoor environmental issues. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help mitigate the effects of dust storms on your living space.
