Who is responsible for cleaning vents?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last week, I noticed a lot of dirt accumulating in the vents near my bedroom. Living in a rental, I’m unsure if it’s on me to clean this or if it falls under maintenance. The previous tenants didn’t mention anything about duct cleaning either. Should I bring this up with the landlord?

Vent cleaning is indeed a topic many tenants and property managers find themselves pondering. In the UAE, especially in Dubai, it's important to understand who is responsible for ensuring indoor air quality through regular ductwork maintenance.

According to local regulations and building codes, while specific rules might not be as stringent as in other countries, it’s generally advisable that landlords are held accountable for maintaining the overall condition of the property. This includes ensuring the proper functioning and cleanliness of ventilation systems. However, tenants do have a responsibility to report issues they observe or experience.

In your case, noticing a significant amount of dirt accumulating near bedroom vents is not uncommon after dust storms. Given this situation, it would be prudent to bring up the issue with your landlord as part of routine maintenance discussions. You could mention that you've noticed an increase in dirt and dust in your living space recently, which might indicate the need for duct cleaning.

A good practice is to keep records of any such observations and share them with your landlord. This can help in maintaining a dialogue about property upkeep. Should your landlord agree that professional attention is required, they are typically responsible for arranging this service.

However, if you’re unsure or if your landlord declines responsibility, it might be wise to consult a local environmental inspection and remediation company like ours at Saniservice. Our team is here to ensure that your indoor air quality meets the highest standards.
