Who replaces moldy air filter?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a slight moldy smell coming from the kitchen, specifically around the air filter in the ceiling unit. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, and I’m unsure if it’s my responsibility to replace the filter or not. Could someone advise on who typically handles this?

Hello there! Moldy air filters can indeed pose health risks and are something to take seriously. In the UAE, specifically Dubai, it is a wise move to ensure that HVAC systems are properly maintained, especially during humid periods like rain. The smell you've noticed in your kitchen could be due to mold growth on or around the filter within your ceiling unit.

Typically, air filters should be inspected and replaced as part of regular maintenance practices. In many cases, it's usually the responsibility of the property owner to replace these filters, especially for non-residential properties like offices or commercial spaces. However, in residential settings, depending on where you live, there could be specific regulations around HVAC maintenance.

In the UAE, particularly Dubai, building codes and guidelines aren't always as strict as some other regions, but it's still advisable to keep systems well-maintained for occupant health and safety. If you're unsure about who should handle this, it might be best to consult your property management or landlord if applicable.

For a professional assessment of the issue, I'd recommend contacting an HVAC service provider. They can inspect the system thoroughly and ensure that all parts, including filters, are in good condition. Given the recent rain, it's not uncommon for humidity to affect air quality, leading to mold growth.

If you decide to replace the filter yourself, make sure to do so carefully. Wear gloves and a mask while handling the old filter to avoid any direct contact with potential allergens or contaminants. After replacing the filter, ensure that the system is running properly by checking for airflow and noise levels.

For further assistance, you can always call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 (Saniservice) or email hello@saniservice.com if you need more guidance. Remember, maintaining a clean air environment in your home is crucial, especially when dealing with potential mold growth.

Hope this helps!
