Are sandstorms causing poor air quality?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent sandstorms, I noticed a layer of gray dust accumulated on our ceiling fan and even some of the walls in the living room. My family has been complaining about stuffy air and occasional sneezing. Given that we live in Dubai where sandstorms are common, could this be due to poor ductwork? Should I attempt to clean the vents myself or is it better to call a professional?

Yes, sandstorms can indeed contribute to poor air quality in Dubai and the UAE. The recent dust storms have led to an accumulation of particulate matter that includes fine particles from sand, which might be causing those visible layers on your ceiling fan and walls. This dust can also enter your ductwork, leading to a decrease in airflow and potentially triggering allergic reactions or exacerbating respiratory issues.

Given the common occurrence of sandstorms here, it's quite plausible that your symptoms could be related to poor ductwork. Your vents might have been collecting significant amounts of dust during these storms, which then gets distributed throughout your home with each air cycle. This can certainly lead to stuffy air and discomfort like sneezing.

Now, cleaning the vents yourself is possible but not necessarily advisable. The process requires proper tools and techniques that many homeowners may lack, leading to ineffective cleaning or even damage to the system. Professionals have the right equipment and expertise to ensure thorough cleaning without causing any harm.

It's highly recommended you call in a professional service for an inspection and duct cleaning if you suspect your air quality has been compromised. Not only will this help improve the cleanliness of your home, but it can also enhance the efficiency of your HVAC system. Here at Saniservice, we provide comprehensive duct cleaning services tailored to our local climate conditions.
