Should we clean ductwork due to dust clouds?« Back to Previous Page

Since moving into our new apartment a few months ago, we’ve noticed a persistent dust cloud when the air conditioning is turned on. It’s especially noticeable in the kids' room down the hall. I’m worried it might be causing my child to cough more often and wondered if getting the ducts cleaned could help. Should we consider having the ductwork serviced, or could this be due to something else entirely?

Absolutely, the dust cloud issue you're experiencing could be due to debris and allergens accumulating inside your ductwork. This is quite common in new properties especially after construction work. In Dubai and the UAE, it's standard for building regulations to ensure that all HVAC systems are properly installed and maintained but unfortunately, sometimes these systems can get clogged over time.

When you turn on your air conditioning, the dust gets kicked up as the fan tries to push air through the restricted passages. This not only affects indoor air quality but could be contributing to your child's coughing issues. Ductwork in older or poorly maintained systems often harbors a mix of dust, mold spores, and other microorganisms which can worsen respiratory conditions like allergies and asthma.

Considering your situation, it would definitely be beneficial to have the ducts professionally cleaned. This process removes any accumulated dirt, dust, and allergens that might be affecting air quality in your home. In Dubai, many companies specialize in this service, offering thorough cleaning using specialized equipment designed to reach all corners of the ductwork.

Additionally, you may want to consider having a professional inspection done to identify other potential issues like mold growth or moisture problems within the HVAC system that could also be contributing to these symptoms. This would give you peace of mind and ensure that your air quality is at its best.

If you decide to go ahead with cleaning, make sure to choose a reputable service provider who complies with local regulations such as those set by the Dubai Municipality or similar bodies in other Emirates. They should follow strict guidelines for safe removal and disposal of contaminants.

So, yes, I would highly recommend having your ductwork serviced. Not only will it help alleviate the dust cloud issue but also improve overall indoor air quality making your home a healthier place to live in. If you're unsure about who to call or need assistance finding reliable service providers, feel free to reach out for guidance.
