Should dust storms cause mold concerns?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last month, I’ve noticed a persistent cough and sneezing in my bedroom since then. The smell in there is pretty bad too, like old dust and mildew mixed together. Should I be concerned about mold or other allergens from duct cleaning?

Dust storms can indeed cause mold concerns in the UAE and Dubai. When strong dust storms occur, they can carry large amounts of particulate matter into your home's ventilation system, which may include organic material that could potentially support the growth of mold if it gets trapped within your ductwork or other HVAC components.

In the UAE context, post-dust storm inspections are particularly important due to the environmental conditions. High humidity and temperature fluctuations can create a favorable environment for mold development, especially in areas with poor ventilation.

Given the symptoms you've described – persistent coughing and sneezing along with an unpleasant smell that seems like old dust and mildew – it would be prudent to have your ductwork professionally inspected. The UAE doesn't have specific regulations mandating regular duct cleaning but it's a good practice, especially after such storms.

Professional inspection could help identify if mold or other allergens are present in the air supply system. If issues are found, remediation may be necessary to ensure indoor air quality and your health is protected.

Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection and cleaning service if you suspect mold growth in your HVAC system. Regular maintenance can help prevent future issues by keeping the ducts clean and ensuring that air quality remains optimal.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial to avoid respiratory problems and other health issues. So do consider having your ducts cleaned and checked post-dust storms or whenever you notice unusual odors or symptoms in your home.
