Could ductwork trap storm dust, causing coughing?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a thick layer of dust on top of the fridge in the living room. My kids have been complaining about coughing fits especially when they play near their bedroom window, which is right next to where the ductwork runs through the wall. Could this be related to the dusty air from the storm getting trapped and recirculated? Should I consider having the ducts cleaned?

Absolutely, it's quite plausible that the dust storm could have contributed to your indoor air quality issues. The heavy particulates from such storms can easily get trapped within your HVAC system and ductwork, especially if they aren't properly maintained. In dubai/uae, these systems are often under significant stress due to the high temperatures and sand particles.

In your case, the thick dust layer on top of your fridge could be a sign that the problem isn't just isolated to one area but is likely affecting the whole house. This accumulation can lead to poor air quality which might explain why you're seeing coughing fits in your kids when they play near their bedroom window.

The ductwork running through your wall by the bedroom window could indeed be a conduit for re-circulating that storm dust into your living space, causing irritation and potentially worsening respiratory issues. Given the situation, it would be wise to consider having an inspection of your HVAC system done.

Professional inspections in dubai/uae are recommended as they can identify not only dust but also other potential allergens or contaminants that might be affecting indoor air quality. The experts can advise on whether cleaning is needed and if so, what kind of service will ensure your family stays healthy.
