Are dust storms harming my kids' health?« Back to Previous Page

Since we moved into our new apartment near the airport last year, dust storms have become a frequent occurrence. Just yesterday, during one of these storms, the entire house was covered in a thick layer of fine sand particles. My kids were inside playing video games when it started, and now they're complaining of sore throats and runny noses. Have any other families here experienced similar issues with their children's health during dust storms?

Dust storms can indeed pose some health risks to your kids especially during those times of intense particulate matter concentration. In the UAE particularly in Dubai, we've seen an increase in dust storm occurrences due to various environmental factors like construction activities and desert winds.

The fine sand particles carried by these storms can irritate respiratory systems, leading to symptoms such as sore throats and runny noses that your kids are experiencing now. These particles often contain minerals and other substances that may not be suitable for breathing. In Dubai, there have been reports of similar complaints from families living in areas prone to dust storms.

It's important to keep the indoor environment clean during these events. Regularly vacuuming with a HEPA filter cleaner can help reduce airborne particles. Also ensure that windows are tightly closed or sealed to prevent sand entry into your home. Using air purifiers can also be beneficial, as they filter out many of these irritants from the air.

In more serious cases, it would be advisable to have a professional environmental inspection done by a company specializing in indoor air quality and dust assessment. This can provide insights on how to better manage the situation and ensure your family's health is not compromised during such storms.

Remember that while dust storms are common, taking proactive measures can significantly reduce their impact. If you're concerned or if symptoms persist, don’t hesitate to contact us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for further assistance.
