Is debris in air vents normal?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a lot of debris accumulating in the air vents throughout the house. The master bedroom and bathroom seem to be the worst affected areas. Given that we’ve only been living here for two years, I’m wondering if this is normal or if it’s a sign that our ducts need cleaning. Can someone share their experience on whether they cleaned the ducts themselves or hired professionals?

Debris in air vents can be pretty common, especially after an event like the recent dust storm. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, our environment can have its fair share of particulates and allergens. The accumulation you're noticing in your master bedroom and bathroom is not entirely out of the ordinary but could indicate that it's time for a thorough cleaning.

Ducts, if not cleaned regularly, can indeed accumulate dust, fibers from carpets and upholstery, and other debris over time. This buildup can impact indoor air quality and may lead to discomfort or health issues, especially for those with allergies or respiratory problems. Given your recent experience with the storm, it might be prudent to have a professional inspection done.

In Dubai, local regulations do not mandate regular duct cleaning but recommend that you assess your system every 3-5 years depending on how often you use your HVAC systems and the environment around your home. If you notice significant amounts of debris, especially in areas like bathrooms where moisture can contribute to mold growth, it's best to contact a professional.

At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive duct cleaning services which include inspection, cleaning, and sanitization if necessary. Our team uses state-of-the-art equipment to ensure thoroughness while minimizing disruption to your home. Remember that poor air quality can affect everyone in the house but is more critical for children, elderly people, and those with existing health conditions.

If you decide to go ahead with a professional service, make sure they are certified and use HEPA filters during cleaning to capture fine particles. Also, consider asking about their after-service maintenance plan or recommendations on how often your system should be serviced based on your specific circumstances.
