Who is responsible for dust cleaning?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy cleaning my landlord did before we moved in, I’ve noticed a persistent dust issue since last month. The living room, which is where we spend most of our time, seems to gather dust much faster than other rooms. It’s especially noticeable on the furniture and window sills. Given that this place is a rental, should I be responsible for regular cleaning or is it something my landlord should handle?

In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, the responsibility for regular cleaning can be a bit ambiguous. When it comes to dust cleaning in your rental property, it's generally advisable that both you and your landlord share certain responsibilities. While landlords are typically responsible for maintaining a clean and safe living environment, tenants are usually expected to keep their personal spaces tidy.

Given the situation with persistent dust in your living room, it would be wise to discuss this with your landlord to ensure they understand their obligations under UAE rental laws. According to UAE Federal Law No. 15 of 1984 regarding real estate transactions, landlords should maintain the property's structural integrity and cleanliness, which can include regular cleaning and maintenance services.

However, as a tenant, you are also expected to keep your living areas clean and to dispose of waste properly. Dust in a specific room like your living area could be due to various factors including poor ventilation or even the cleaning methods used by your landlord. To better understand this issue, consider having an indoor environmental quality assessment done.

It's also helpful to establish clear communication with your landlord about regular maintenance and cleaning responsibilities. This can prevent misunderstandings down the line and ensure that both parties are aware of their roles in maintaining a clean living environment.

If you find it too challenging to discuss directly or if the dust issue persists, consider reaching out to professional services for an inspection. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive indoor air quality assessments and remediation services tailored to Dubai's climate and conditions. Our team can provide insights into why dust is accumulating in your living room and recommend effective cleaning solutions.

In summary, while landlords have a responsibility to maintain the property, tenants should also take part in keeping their personal spaces clean.
