Could the dust storm cause indoor odors?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I’ve noticed a strange odor lingering in our living room. The AC unit was running non-stop to try and clear it out, but the smell is still there, and my kids have been complaining of throat irritation. We’ve lived here for two years now and this is the first time something like this has happened. Could it be related to the storm, or could there be an issue with our air conditioning system?

Absolutely, the dust storm could be behind the odour lingering in your living room. Dust storms can carry all sorts of particulates and pollutants that might find their way into your home's HVAC system or settle on surfaces within your space. In the UAE, particularly during such events, it is not uncommon to experience an increase in indoor air quality issues due to external factors.

The odour you’re experiencing could be from a variety of sources including dust, debris, and even moisture that may have been introduced by the storm. Given the dry climate in Dubai, it's possible that humidity levels increased temporarily during the storm which can contribute to mold growth if not properly managed. Mold spores are notorious for causing unpleasant odours as well as respiratory issues.

Given your kids' complaints of throat irritation and considering you've lived here for two years without this issue before, it would be prudent to get a professional inspection. The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EDA) or the Dubai Municipality have guidelines on indoor air quality which might come in handy when seeking services from qualified professionals.

I'd recommend reaching out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for a thorough assessment of your home's environment. They can help identify any potential issues and provide solutions to ensure the air you breathe is healthy and safe.

In the meantime, keep running your AC system as it helps in filtering out some particles and reducing humidity levels that might be contributing to the odour problem. Additionally, consider using a dehumidifier if you notice any increase in moisture especially after storms like this one.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial for everyone’s health, particularly young children who are more susceptible to respiratory irritants. Keeping your home well-ventilated and addressing any moisture issues promptly can significantly improve the situation.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com if you need assistance with a professional inspection right away.
