How urgent is addressing persistent dust and allergens?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy cleaning they did a few months ago, the dust and allergens in our hotel room still haven't settled. The air feels thick and it's hard to breathe sometimes, especially at night when everyone is sleeping. It’s really concerning because my kids have been coughing more than usual. How urgent should we be about bringing this up with management?

The situation sounds quite concerning and definitely warrants immediate attention. Persistent dust and allergens can indeed cause discomfort and exacerbate respiratory issues, especially for children who may be more sensitive to such irritants.

In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, indoor air quality is governed by certain standards although not as stringent as in some other regions. The Dubai Municipality does have guidelines that hotels must adhere to but it's crucial you bring this issue up with management right away given your concerns about health and comfort for guests including your kids.

First off, I would strongly advise having a professional indoor air quality inspection done. This will help identify the exact sources of dust and allergens as well as assess overall air quality. Companies like Saniservice, which you can reach by calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com, specialize in such services and could offer valuable insights.

In the meantime, there are some practical steps you can take to improve the situation:

1. Ensure proper ventilation: Opening windows when weather permits and using air purifiers can help reduce allergens.
2. Dust regularly: Regular cleaning of surfaces and furniture can minimize dust accumulation. Use a damp cloth to prevent dust particles from spreading into the air.
3. Wash bedding frequently: Using hot water washing on your linens will kill dust mites which are known triggers for allergies.

It's important to communicate clearly with management about your concerns. Highlighting any noticeable symptoms like coughing and difficulty breathing could prompt them to take swift action. Management may appreciate a written report or even an inspection done by a third-party expert, as they might not be aware of the severity of the issue until it is professionally documented.

In Dubai’s climate, where dust can be prevalent, maintaining high standards of cleanliness especially after major cleaning activities like those mentioned, should always remain a priority. Addressing this promptly will ensure guest comfort and satisfaction while also protecting public health in line with local guidelines and best practices.

Don't wait too long to bring up your concerns. Your family’s well-being is paramount, and ensuring the air quality in your hotel room is safe for everyone should be top of mind.
